Financial Crime Compliance aligns current activities within Global Risk and helps to build these into a more integrated framework to conduct Customer Due Diligence which enables HSBC to manage financial crime risk more effectively. It builds stronger controls to improve the way Financial Crime Compliance risks are managed in order to spot gaps as well as trends so that the team can take action. It proactively gathers and analyses financial intelligence in a smart way so that suspicious transactions, activities or connections can be identified and we can adequately protect our customers from the threat of financial crime.

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Monitoring and Testing Manager, Financial Crime Risk.

Principal responsibilities

  • HSBC's Second Line of Defense Compliance Monitoring and Testing programme provides ongoing, periodic monitoring and comprehensive testing for Financial Crime and Regulatory Compliance. The bank's Monitoring and Testing model will operate consistently in all countries to deliver greater transparency and consistency of the reporting of global Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance risks.
  • The Manager supports In country teams in the coordination, overseeing and carrying out of Financial Crime Compliance monitoring and testing activities across the Asia Pacific region, in order in order to obtain reasonable assurance that the business is operating in line with relevant laws, regulations, codes and HSBC Group Standards within Financial Crime Compliance and to ensure that Monitoring standards meet the Group's Global Standard and the expectations of key stakeholders. In country team coverage will comprise Global Banking and Markets, Commercial Banking, Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Global Private Banking.
  • Responsibilities include implementing standards for testing methodologies, techniques and procedures, execution of robust quality standard programme, management of the risk prioritisation process, and providing guidance on the development of a testing program library.

  • Good understanding and experience of Financial Crime Compliance regulations
  • Good understanding of operating environments across Asia pacific region
  • Minimum of a Bachelor degree in business, law, accountancy or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of control testing gained within a financial services organization or audit or consulting practice
  • Awareness of good risk management and governance frameworks including 3 lines of defence criteria
  • Understanding of the activities of relevant business lines and associated compliance risks
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and to engage with senior HSBC staff within the functions
  • Ability to foster relationships whilst providing adequate challenge and effecting change
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight time lines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex regulatory issues in writing
  • Proven team player with an open communication style
The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting. Subject to local laws, this will require the individual to satisfactorily pass a series of additional checks as part of the recruitment process and on an ongoing basis, if appointed to the role.
