Strategic Initiatives Advisor, Anti Money Laundering Regulatory Initiatives & Reporting
The Strategic Initiatives Advisor, AML Regulatory Initiatives & Reporting is a member of the AML Office Governance and Regulatory Effectiveness function and is accountable to identify, research, and assess regulatory and material industry developments, publications, advisories, and guidance at it relates to money laundering, terrorist financing, and sanctions measures, domestically, and where applicable internationally. The role will support the assessment, actioning, and reporting of key impacts to BMO Financial Groups AML program, identifying and engaging with key stakeholders within AML and business functions to drive and facilitate analysis and any required change management. Additionally, the role leads and develops AML reporting for senior management. The position requires in-depth knowledge AML legislation and regulatory expectations, a detail oriented critical thinker, and a strong relationship builder.

Key Accountabilities

Regulatory Initiatives & Industry Developments
The Strategic Initiatives Advisor is required to:
  • Identify, assess, action, and report on key AML regulatory initiatives including publications, projects, or activities impacting the AML Program.
  • Identify, assess, action, and report on material industry developments including domestic and international body publications, reports, or initiatives impacting the AML Program.
  • Critically assesses the above through stakeholder engagement to facilitate positive outcomes and actions.
  • Engage with AML Policy & Training as required to ensure any impacts to AML Policy are addressed, and that any required training is developed and delivered.
  • Engage with internal and external subject matter experts to facilitate understanding and approach.

AML Tactical Support
The Strategic Initiatives Advisor is required to:
  • Tactically support the Senior Manager and broader mandate with the implementation of regulatory initiatives and changes.
  • Monitor the rollout of regulatory initiatives to ensure they address the intended regulation and guidance.

AML Program Reporting
The Strategic Initiatives Advisor is required to:
  • Develop and support AML Program reporting to Senior Management
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of all issues, metrics, top line and emerging risks, and current and projected impacts to the AML Program.

Legislative Developments
The Strategic Initiatives Advisor is required to:
  • Work closely with all jurisdictions in which BMO operates to identify and inventory key changes and impacts to local requirements
  • Work closely with and support the AML Policy and Training function in an advisory capacity

Knowledge and Skills Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of Money Laundering (ML), Terrorist Financing (TF) and sanctions risk, typologies and legislation
  • Broad knowledge of AML systems and processes applicable to Financial Institutions
  • Extensive understanding of the financial services industry products and processes
  • Extensive understanding of AML risk, risk management, and regulatory environments
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of AML operations, business services and organization
  • Track record of delivering significant framework design and improvement
  • University degree in appropriate professional discipline and/or relevant chartered professional body membership
  • Minimum of 6 years with progressively more responsibility in compliance, audit, risk or AML
  • Industry certifications (e.g. CAMS) and relevant professional designations
  • Strong competency in project planning and problem solving
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership experience in a transformational, fast-paced environment
  • Experience of managing multiple, projects using a mixture of internal and external resources
  • Exceptional teambuilding skills
