Global Custody: currently 411 jobs. The latest job was posted on 21 Jan 19.
Global custody is the service of protecting a client's securities, potentially wherever they may be in the world. Historically, a global custodian would be responsible for holding the physical paper certificates for bonds and stocks owned by a client. Now, however, this data is stored electronically, and the role has expanded.
Custody is often referred to as securities services and the clients are generally funds. The custodian will perform a range of functions in relation to their client funds, including calculating the net asset value, and collecting the income such as dividends on shares and coupons on bonds.
Custodians also broker deals between securities’ owners, and organisations or funds which need to temporarily borrow them, perhaps to cover a short position.
Global Custody Careers
There is a range of opportunities to work within custody and securities services, both in client-facing, and back-room support roles.
Accounting experts are employed to manage the funds' financial books, verify income accruals, and calculate the fund's net asset value (nav).
The custodians need to keep abreast of when dividends and coupons are due, and how much is due to be paid, so that they can make sure all payments owing to the securities owners are paid and collected. They also need to administer the lending of securities on behalf of their clients, in exchange for a fee.
Business analysts are responsible for gathering relevant data, analysing it, and providing written reports to other team members.
There is also a range of client facing jobs, from sales executives to relationship managers.
As global custodians rely heavily on technology, a number of IT professionals are required to support the day-to-day functioning, and also to monitor technological advancements, and provide input into the firm's IT strategy.
