Buy-Side Credit Analyst - Fixed Income Financials

Job Description

After a training period in our Brussels headquarters at DPAM, you will be based in Hong Kong in our newly created joint-venture where a fixed income and equity research team covers the Asia ex-Japan investment universe.

The analysts of the fixed income research team have as main objectives to provide the fund managers with full and in-depth analysis on micro issues (specific analysis on credit spreads, fundamental and financial analysis, looking behind ratings provided by agencies and challenging them). Their work is essentially bottom-up and complements the top-down analysis done by the fund managers.

For financial issuers, the team conducts fundamental analysis of the business profile (swot analysis, industry risk, regulation, and macro … with a special focus on integration of ESG issues into the analysis) and of the financial profile (CAMELS capital, asset quality, management, earnings, liquidity and sensitivity), to determine the capacity of the issuer to repay debt, in time and entirely.

The structure of each bond is also analysed: statutory, contractual or structural subordination, non-call and coupons risk, etc.

In this role, you will be in charge of:

• Conduct fundamental credit analysis and provide forward looking research views on companies belonging to the Asian ex-Japan Bank, Insurance and Diversified Financial sectors ;
• Generate investment ideas based on fundamental analysis and relative valuation for our fixed income Portfolio Managers who are based in Brussels and Hong Kong ;
• Interact with companies’ management, rating agencies and ESG risk rating providers as well as with buy-side & sell-side analysts.

You will report to the Head of Credit Research based in Brussels as well as to the Hong Kong office management.

Profile

• You are passionate by fixed income markets as well as by the detailed analysis and follow-up of companies. Consequently, you are committed to the job position for the medium term.
• You have at least 3-to-5-year experience in credit analysis of financial issuers in an asset management, banking environment or credit agency.
• Graduated or post-graduated from a European University is a strong asset.
• Languages (written and spoken): English and Mandarin are both essential.
• You are a team player and a strong communicator: communication with Portfolio Managers and colleagues both in Europe and in Asia is essential.
• You have an interest for ESG aspects and a willingness to integrate those aspects into the credit analysis. Any relevant experience with analysis of ESG issues would be a strong asset.
• You have strong analytical skills; the ability to assimilate a large amount of information and to translate it into clear investment ideas. A critical mind and a capacity for synthesizing is key.
• You are very flexible and autonomous in your day-to-day work.
• Hong Kong residence is preferred.
