The Economist's key responsibility is to provide timely macroeconomic research on China, including contributing to part of the broader Asia and Global economics team. The candidate will be based in Hong Kong (though mainland China is an option), and is expected to present these views to both local as well as international clients.
Key functions include: - Providing forecasts for key macroeconomic variables for China
- Gathering market intelligence via regular interaction with policymakers and other experts
- Contributing to broader pan Asia/Global economics research reports
- Communicating Citi economics' views to both internal and external clients
Responsibilities: - Producing timely commentary on key macro data releases, and also in depth research relevant macroeconomic and political themes that may be of interest to institutional clients
- Making contributions on calls on policies that impact markets, such as monetary, fiscal or regulatory policies
- Regular interaction with both internal and external clients to market published research views, working together with sales
- Responding to client requests on China macro related requests in a timely and effective manner
- Organizing meetings with policymakers and experts on behalf of clients
- Contributing to Asia and Global publications
Knowledge/Experience: - Three to five years of relevant work experience in economics or financial market research. Priority would be given to candidates with prior experience in covering China economies
Qualifications: - Economics background is required - either Bachelor's degree or higher
- Strong fluency in writing and presenting in English;
- Proficient in Mandarin
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment and with strong attention to detail
Skills and Competencies: - At least an undergraduate degree or higher in Economics with high GPA
- Strong writing skills - can organize thoughts logically and succinctly in written form
- Can communicate well in English
- Familiarity with economic and market data sources such as CEIC, Haver, WIND, Bloomberg, etc.
- Knowledge of statistical forecasting and modelling tools such as EViews
