We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Product Owner.

Principal Responsibilities

The Commodities primary trading system currently runs on instance of Murex - Apollo, and we are building out the platform across e-risk and trading over the coming years. The platform provides trading, risk management and trade life cycle operations functions to front and middle office users.

The APAC Commodities Product Owner will work very closely with the business and technology. They own the definition and requirements of our products, the prioritisation of delivery, the development, the testing and the deployment of the platforms to the sales / trading / middle office communities.

The commodities platform is integral to the FICC business as we strive to increase the speed of delivery, increase platform adoption, achieve full business commercialisation and build best in class electronic solutions for our users.

The APAC Commodities PO will be

  • Working with technology and business stakeholders to build and develop HSBCs commodities primary trading system
  • Responsible for the delivery of user-centric functionality that will help to simplify trade execution and automate tasks for both front and middle offices
  • Discussing technical implementation with our technology partners and driving short-term delivery objectives through an organised and prioritised backlog
  • Helping to define the product roadmap and defining long term objectives in conjunction with the business and technology to establish a strategic and scalable approach
  • Refining product requirements and establishing the MVP through competitor analysis and user feedback
  • Working closely with UX and design to create prototypes to meet evolving user requirements whilst ensuring continuous improvement from conception to delivery through user feedback sessions
  • Reviewing and testing of releases in production prior to pilot user roll out
  • Co-ordinating working groups with senior management to update on progress, build consensus, highlight risks and issues and ensure accordance across future planned deliveries
  • Ongoing collaboration with marketing, sales and support throughout the product life cycle
  • Driving roll-out strategy to pilot users and establishing a good rapport to encourage feedback and further communication


  • Act as the interface, escalation point and voice of front and middle offices at programme and project level
  • Engage users and get regular feedback on the platforms
  • Communicate with all stakeholders and management
  • Oversight of rollout and user training
  • Own accountability for setting business priority and vision for the programme
  • Articulate what is the Business aiming to achieve: - What does the End State look like?
  • Prioritise requirements - Ensure business value is understood and taken into consideration
  • Provide business benefit for each requirement & how to measure it has been realised
  • Revenue, # of users using a feature etc
  • Assess revenue generating opportunities against cost saving work
  • Educate users face to face, provide Materials & Marketing
  • Provide management Information and business intelligence
  • Partner with technology and business to deliver the product
  • Prioritise back log items
  • Provide NFRs for each requirement
  • Attend and actively participate in all demos, stand up’s and retrospectives
  • Communicate changes in direction, individual releases, etc
  • Approve changes to requirement and ensure they are audited
  • Release Cycle Management
  • Post Release Business Verification
  • Adhere to our delivery principles at all times
