The Senior Sustainability Manager is chiefly responsible for driving the implementation and monitoring of the Bank Group’s financed emissions roadmap and ensuring BEA stays on track to meet its net zero commitments with respect to financed emissions. This includes driving the development of the Bank Group’s green and sustainable finance (“GSF”) business from a sustainability perspective. In this role, the Senior Sustainability Manager will work closely with business units and related colleagues in risk management, data governance, and other functions in the development of BEA’s GSF framework and work towards the climate-alignment of the framework.
Responsibilities:
Work with Group staff, ESG consultants, and partners in the implementation of the Group’s financed emissions roadmap
Coordinate collaboration and discussion among colleagues in the Wholesale Banking Division, China Division (BEA China), International Division, Treasury Markets Division, Risk Management Division, and other related units in the further development of the Bank’s Green Sustainable Finance (GSF) strategy and framework
Help build internal capacity by providing/arranging training for Relationship Managers and other frontline staff on GSF and foster an ESG-conscious organisation by contributing to related training / engagement within the Group
Support the Bank's 3-tiered ESG governance structure as needed
Manage the implementation of BEA’s financed emissions road map including namely the climate financing strategy, customer transition plan, and ESG data platform development
Help drive the development of the Bank's GSF strategy and framework, including the completion/enhancement of policies for high emitting sectors as well as supporting efforts to identify GSF opportunities for the Group’s loan and investment portfolios
Support the green evaluation of new retail and wholesale banking products
Monitor emerging regulation in the sustainability field with respect to GSF as well as trends at the local, national, and international level, which could impact the Bank Group
Drive the development of BEA’s sustainable & transition finance framework to communicate to customers / other external stakeholders
Contribute to the preparation of responses to internal/external requests for information about BEA, particularly in regard to its GSF business
Support engagement of stakeholders including regulators, ESG analysts, etc. as necessary
Build relationships with key sustainability figures in Hong Kong and elsewhere, who may provide insight and advice that would enhance BEA’s performance in this field
Represent the Bank in external GSF working groups and events as needed, and share information with the relevant colleagues for review/action
Requirements:
University graduate, with a degree or further qualification in Green Finance, Sustainability, or related discipline
A minimum of 10 years’ solid experience in the banking & finance industry
understanding of the concepts of sustainability and ESG risk; the major social and environmental issues in the world today; the sustainability drivers in business, particularly the banking industry; and related regulatory requirements
