About the Function & Role:

Audit Services' Professional Practices Group (PPG):

Audit Service's PPG is responsible for maintaining and enhancing practices, policies, and tools used by Northern Trust's internal audit department ("Audit Services" or the "Department"), globally. PPG centrally supports the Department's core business processes, partnering with senior members of the Department to continually identify and enhance these activities. PPG's primary responsibilities includes: establishing and maintaining the Department's audit practices; conducting quality assurance over various aspects of the work produced by the Department; providing training and monitoring training conducted annually; supporting internal and external reporting; and maintaining the Department's technology infrastructure/system. PPG maintains a Quality Assurance (QA) function to provide assurance that the Department is executing in lines with established standards and industry expectations.

PPG QA Function:

The Audit Services' PPG QA function is responsible for maintaining and executing the Quality Assurance and Improvement Program (QAIP), and performing independent reviews of the Department's audit deliverables to ensure alignment with the, internal audit methodology, relevant regulatory requirements, as well as The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Standards. The QA function supports the global Department and regularly assesses a variety of internal audit deliverables and supporting documentation (e.g., audit work papers, reports, risk assessments), collaborates with senior audit management, and publishes assessment reports, metrics, action items, etc. Some of the guiding principles of the QA function include:
  • A dynamic QAIP that is not checklist focused
  • Collates, manages, and disseminates QA issues across Audit Services
  • Relevant, insightful, and risk-based metrics that help monitor and report on ongoing effectiveness and improvements in Audit Services' processes

QA Specialist Role:

The QA Specialist position will be a key driver in the execution and delivery of the QAIP Program and its principles. The individual will be fundamental and instrumental in setting a very high bar in bringing the 'value' of the QA function to the broader Audit Services department.

This role is "highly visible" to the Audit Services' Leadership Team, including the CAE, due to the nature and frequency of discussions held with them on QAIP results. Therefore, thought leadership, practical and logical thinking style, positive and learning attitude, ability to navigate through ambiguity with comfort, and ability to collaborate and influence positive change are the fundamental requirements to this role. This position will functionally report to the Quality Assurance Manager (Chicago).
