About this role

Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock’s Global Fixed Income (GFI) group manages more than $1.9 trillion in global fixed income assets across index, ETFs, active long-only, alternative, and liability driven strategies. The platform offers fixed income investors one of the industry's broadest array of investment choices across index, model-based and fundamental investment styles.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock’s Fixed Income London-based Fundamental Fixed Income (FFI) group is hiring a senior economist who will be responsible for a wide array of economic and data analysis responsibilities in support of portfolio managers (PMs) in FFI on the multi-sector mutual funds.  The analyst will help drive the internal view on the Eurozone economic outlook, monetary policy and sovereign rates.  The economist will develop and implement new analytical tools, consolidate Eurozone data analysis and its delivery to FFI PMs, build economic models, and support the forward-looking assessment of the economy and the corresponding outlook for policy rates and inflation.  The outlook in turn then supports revenue generation by assisting alpha-creation and the analysis that underlies client outreach by the PMs.  The successful candidate will work closely with FFI PMs and other stakeholders across GFI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and assess incoming macroeconomic data for the Eurozone economies and deliver the key information to PMs and other stakeholders like the Head of Economics.
  • Create new data deliverables to help PMs better assess the macroeconomic risks that might affect their portfolios and positioning.
  • Build econometric models to assess the outlook for growth, inflation and employment in the Eurozone.
  • Maintain assessment of the upside and downside risks from the political economy of the Eurozone, which frequently impacts portfolios and market pricing, such as fiscal policy and other developments.
  • Maintain a view of monetary policy and the monetary policy outlook for the European Central Bank.
  • Support PM desks in management of the macroeconomic risks facing the fixed income funds.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • More than 5 years working as an analyst in an asset manager, investment bank or government.
  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in economics or statistics, preferable, or undergraduate economics with some graduate-level coursework.
  • Knowledge of Eurozone economy, data, and economic policy, including fiscal and monetary policy, and demonstrated work on these topics.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct economic research on economic topics relevant to fixed income markets (examples include exchange rates, monetary policy or government fiscal policy).
  • Knowledge of statistics, data and statistical computing applications required.
  • Effective team player who can develop important internal relationships.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a sharp attention to detail.
