The User Experience (UX) Design Lead will report to the Alpha UX Program Director and work closely with teams across the Alpha Platform, Charles River Development, and the broader State Street organization to spearhead innovative user solutions from conception to design to implementation. The ideal candidate is able to consider the holistic user experience and to create designs that fit within an existing and growing framework.

The UX Design Lead will partner with platform workstream leads, product owners, business analysts, and technology leads to identify areas of focus within the user experience, and design functional solutions, leading a detailed interaction design process and effectively communicating that design to varying stakeholders. The candidate will work closely with business and technology leads during the process, including implementation. To be effective in this role, the candidate will work onsite in Boston.


  • Lead new product features through the full UX design and development cycle including concept, information architecture, interaction design, and visual design (when needed)
  • Provide mentorship, goal-setting, and accountability to designers
  • Provide feedback on designs, identifying overlaps between an individual designers work and other projects
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews for design concepts, from initial wire-frames and prototypes through completion
  • Create functional prototypes that display highly innovation, engaging and user-centered designs
  • Work with technology leads to communicate requirements of the functional design, and adjust design as needed to accommodate technical and practical constraints


  • 5-10 years experience in UX design
  • 5+ years experience designing financial services products
  • Demonstrated ability to provide UX design in a fast-paced, Agile environment
  • Experience with the full software development cycle, from initial concept to detailed design to implementation and bringing products to market
  • Experience creating great user experiences in a lean way; combining research, information architecture, copy, interactions, visual design, and constant user feedback along the way
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to articulate design decisions and ask tough questions to help surface and challenge assumptions
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with varying stakeholders seamlessly
  • Produce examples of work that demonstrate user-focused design sense and thoughtful approach to designing user workflows
  • Demonstrate a curiosity to learn and take on new challenges in a changing environment
  • Experience mentoring and leading product designers strongly preferred
  • Multilingual candidates preferred
