Consultant, Database Engineering
Overview:
Database Service Delivery manage our databases, with a goal to deliver secure, scalable and resilient infrastructure and software deployment capability for global solutions.

Provide administration of production, pre-production, UAT and development database systems and assist in designing of the database tier for our global payments
solution.

Deliver a robust, scalable and high performance production database environment working with system engineers, database developers and junior database administrators.

Role

Independently drive projects through design, implementation, automation, and maintenance of large scale enterprise RDBMS systems servicing a global client base

• Act as an expert technical resource within the team and region
• Deliver on-time, accurate, high-value, robust data solutions across multiple clients, solutions and industry sectors
• Build trust-based working relationships with peers and clients across local and global teams
• Implement best practices and collaborate in the design of effective streamlined processes for a complex global solutions group
• Leverage industry best practices including proper use of source control, participation in code reviews, data validation and testing
• Plays a lead role where he/she oversees the activities of the data engineers and ensures the efficient execution of their duties
• Act as an advisor/mentor and helps in managing careers for junior team members
• Comply and uphold all MasterCard internal policies and external regulations
• Implement proactive monitoring of all databases to predict and diagnose the majority of problems before they impact application performance or user experience.
• Configure and manage database replication technology (peer - peer | multi-master).
• Undertake periodic upgrades of database schema and perform testing and verification of released database schema upgrades.
• Create and maintain documentation, procedures and best practice guides for database deployment and maintenance.
• Role may require occasional out of standard work hours to minimize downtime and may also require occasional international travel for training and business purposes.
• Work with development and other support teams to participate in release and change management processes to implement new features/functions as well apply mandatory patches or upgrades.

All About You
• Solid experience in MS SQL (2008, 2010, 2014) and Oracle (10g/11g/12c ) tuning with extensive experience as a Database Administrator in medium or larger organizations.
• Highly proficient in MS SQL with a solid understanding of database concepts (e.g. entity relationship modelling, nth normal form, Object-relational mapping).
• Thorough understanding and significant experience of database backup and recovery, performance monitoring and tuning, data manipulation and migration and advanced replication technologies.
• Strong technical knowledge of database architecture, data storage and management principles, with experience using related technologies.
• Experience with High Availability architectures (including Windows\\MS SQL clustering, Sql Server always on, mirroring log shipping).
• Experience in XML and T-SQL, writing queries, stored procedures, task automation using SQL Agent, scripting, PowerShell etc.
• Significant experience in MS SQL and Cassandra.
• Experience in implementation & support of NoSQL technology (including Cassandra, elastic search and Lucene).
• Exposure to or good experience within the financial services/payments industry environment (e.g. Banking, Credit Card Scheme).
• Experience with web technologies (Java, JavaScript, JDBC, asp, C#, R, Python, Ruby, VB, PHP, Azure, AWS) and UNIX shell scripting (bash, ksh, and sh).
• Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent qualification/industry experience within IT/ecommerce.
• Any Enterprise Database certification is a desirable qualification.
• Hands on approach to problem solving.
• Strong communication skills both written and verbal coupled with strong problem solving.
• Exposure and practice with any or all of the following is a plus: Remedy, Jenkins, ITIL, CMM, Six Sigma, Agile, Scrum, and Kanban.
• Positive attitude with the ability to adapt and be flexible within a fast paced environment.
