Your new role
As a Banking Lawyer / Senior Banking Lawyer, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of regulatory and compliance matters impacting a retail banking business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Advising on regulatory requirements, legal risks, and compliance obligations across consumer lending and financial products
- Supporting the business in identifying, assessing and mitigating legal and regulatory risks
- Reviewing incidents and advising on breach reporting obligations to relevant regulators
- Managing legal disputes and liaising with external legal counsel where required
- Reviewing product documentation, marketing materials, and operational practices to ensure compliance with applicable laws and industry standards
- Partnering with internal stakeholders to provide strategic legal input and enable business outcomes
- Assisting with regulatory reporting and maintaining strong engagement with external advisors.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Admission to practice in Australia, with an unrestricted practising certificate (or eligibility to obtain one)
- Minimum of 2-3 years' PAE for a role at the Lawyer level, OR a minimum of 5 years' PAE at the Senior Lawyer level
- Previous legal experience in retail banking
- Strong knowledge of banking and financial services regulation and compliance frameworks
- Proven ability to provide clear, pragmatic, and commercial legal advice to non-legal stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
- High levels of professionalism, discretion and ability to handle sensitive matters
