Do work that matters

Join the Business Banking Companion team to engineer core AI-enabled customer and platform capabilities for CommBank Companion for Business. You will act as the squad technical lead and work across adjacent squads to deliver agentic AI capabilities into customer-facing Business Banking experiences. You will own platform architecture and reusable capabilities, guide key trade-offs, align integrations across the broader ecosystem and drive measurable improvements in adoption, delivery flow, reliability, cost, customer trust and controls.

Business Banking Technology is modernising how business customers engage with the bank by building BB Companion, an AI-powered experience in the CommBank app that helps customers understand what is happening in their business, explore options and take the next best step with confidence. The platform supports a growing portfolio of customer-facing and AI-enabled capabilities, including cashflow insights, business performance signals, conversational guidance, action pathways and safe integration with broader Business Banking expert capabilities.

You'll work closely with Product Owners, Data Scientists, Principal Engineers, Business Banking Technology, AI platform teams and adjacent crews to deliver platform capabilities, improve engineering practices, and meet technology control, privacy and responsible AI obligations. You will influence architecture and roadmaps, align cross-team dependencies and embed secure-by-design, privacy, data governance, operational resilience and responsible AI controls.

What you'll be doing

• Own BB Companion platform architecture, infrastructure and automation across squads.
• Lead technical direction, design reviews and integration across product, data and AI platform capabilities.
• Enable secure AWS delivery through CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes and EKS.
• Improve reliability, observability and resilience through SLOs, capacity planning, incident support and remediation.
• Improve developer experience through self-service, golden paths and measurable platform adoption.
• Embed security, privacy, data governance, responsible AI and agent safety controls.
• Set standards and apply Staff-level judgement to governance, incidents and complex trade-offs.
• Mentor engineers and grow platform capability across squads.

Must have

• Staff-level leadership across architecture, platform strategy, complex trade-offs and engineer mentoring.
• Strong AWS platform engineering experience across Kubernetes/EKS, containers, networking, scalability, resilience, security and cost.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, scripting, CI/CD, GitOps and DevSecOps practices.
• Strong system design across APIs, integrations, automation, observability, SLOs and reliable operations.
• Experience embedding security, privacy, risk controls and vulnerability remediation into platform delivery.
• Clear communication and stakeholder alignment across product, engineering, data, AI platform, risk and business teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud-native APIs, customer-facing digital services or conversational experiences.
• Exposure to AWS AI services, generative or agentic AI workloads, responsible AI and human oversight controls.
• Experience with internal developer platforms, golden paths, self-service capabilities or FinOps practices.
• Relevant cloud certifications, technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
