Key responsibilities
- Lead engineering teams across AI/ML R&D projects, sometimes running multiple concurrently.
- Deliver novel AI/ML solutions to technically complex and challenging customer problems.
- Apply and adapt state-of-the-art academic research to real-world engineering problems.
- Provide hands-on technical expertise across Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning, LLMs and NLP.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, supporting their technical development.
- Contribute to early-stage client interactions and support business winning efforts.
- Lead technical bidding activities including solution definition, task estimation and authoring technical content.
Skills & experience
- Proven experience in AI/ML R&D across areas such as Computer Vision, Reinforcement Learning or NLP.
- Strong ability to conceive novel applications of AI/ML techniques and adapt academic research.
- Solid software engineering background with experience delivering complex work at pace.
- Hands-on Python development experience within professional software projects.
- Experience working in and leading agile engineering teams.
- Practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and associated tooling.
- Ability to provide clear technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
Additional benefits
- Experience contributing to technical bids or proposals in a Defence or Government context.
- Background in early-stage research projects within a multi-disciplinary development programme.
- Familiarity with sensors, communications or cyber technology domains.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification or research background in AI, ML or a related field.
