Salary: A competitive salary from

Closing date: 4 October 2026

We're the UK's largest investment platform, and we put financial wellbeing at the heart of our organisation. We work with customers, financial advisers and employers to provide pensions, savings and investment solutions.

We help people live their best lives. We help them with the big stuff, for the moments that matter: Pensions, Savings, Investments. At Aegon, we strive in creating a diverse organisation that plays a meaningful role in driving greater equity, inclusion and belonging.

As Finance Assistant you will undertake the day-to-day activity of Finance Operations, delivering a high-quality service to stakeholders and ensuring the integrity of the general ledger. You will prepare accounts to trial balance level, perform robust balance sheet and bank reconciliations, and complete insightful analysis to identify anomalies, resolve issues and strengthen financial controls.

You will partner with key stakeholders across Finance and the wider business to reduce financial risk and exposure in relation to key processes. You will communicate clearly, challenge constructively where needed, and take ownership to investigate, resolve and prevent accounting and process anomalies.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver day-to-day finance operations activity to agreed quality standards and deadlines

  • Own and complete daily bank, control account and funding reconciliations; investigate breaks and ensure timely resolution

  • Process and reconcile Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable activity

  • Process receipts and payments, and prepare/review/authorise ledger journals in line with controls and delegated authorities

  • Prepare and process journals, including accruals and prepayments

  • Prepare accounts to trial balance level, including balance sheet substantiation and readiness for month-end reporting

  • Produce regular MI and reporting for Finance stakeholders, explaining movements and variances clearly

  • Produce cash books for trust-based clients and support associated control procedures

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong reconciliation skills with the ability to investigate differences and resolve to root cause

  • Strong analytical skills (comfortable working with large data sets, identifying trends and explaining movements)

  • Clear communication and stakeholder management skills - able to explain finance topics to non-finance audiences

  • Good understanding of general ledger accounting

  • Understanding of month-end processes, including preparation of accounts to trial balance level

  • Strong PC skills, particularly Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) to support reconciliation and analysis

  • Experience working in a finance operations or accounting environment - Financial Services preferred though not essential

  • Accounting qualification or working towards ACCA/CIMA is preferred but not essential

What's in it for you?

  • We're serious about your future and our enhanced pension scheme is now in place. We ask you to contribute 3% of your salary to your pension and we'll put in 9%. If you decide to contribute more, we'll match it up to a combined total of 20% of your salary (that's 7% from you and 13% from us).

  • A discretionary bonus, depending on personal and company performance

  • 34 days leave per year (including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time)

We also offer private medical cover, life assurance, critical illness cover, enhanced parental leave and a variety of lifestyle benefits to help our employees live their best lives, including retail discount vouchers, cycle2work scheme, subsidised restaurant and online GP appointments.
