Investec - Where Out of the Ordinary Happens

At Investec, we do things differently. We're a leading international bank and wealth manager built on a culture of curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and human connection. Ideas are heard, ambition is celebrated, and impact is encouraged. As part of a team that challenges convention and strives for outperformance, you'll help shape bold solutions for clients who expect something more than the ordinary.

The Reward team shapes and delivers Investec's reward strategy, governance framework and core reward programmes, ensuring they support business priorities, attract and retain talent, and meet legal, regulatory and disclosure requirements. The team partners closely with senior business leaders, People & Organisation colleagues, Finance and governance forums to provide expert, commercially grounded advice on remuneration, incentives, benchmarking, reward data and reporting.

What will I be doing?

This is a senior specialist role for an experienced reward professional who has operated across the full reward lifecycle and can manage a reward function end to end without direct line management accountability. The role holder will provide broad functional oversight across annual reward, governance, regulatory reporting, benchmarking, reward data and senior stakeholder advisory, bringing the judgement, pace and credibility required to operate with Exco-level stakeholders in a complex financial services environment.

The role is accountable for leading key reward activities, shaping reward recommendations and translating complex remuneration issues into clear, practical advice for senior decision-makers. It partners closely with the IBP Executive and senior P&O stakeholders to inform remuneration philosophy and approach within IBP, drawing on internal insight, external market practice and relevant legal and regulatory developments.

The role holder has end-to-end accountability for the IBP Specialist Bank Annual Reward Review cycle and plays a key role in supporting the effective operation of the IBP and DLC Remuneration Committees in partnership with the Global Head of Reward. Although this is not a people leadership role, it requires the confidence to coordinate and challenge cross-functional stakeholders, own critical reward processes, and provide senior technical direction across the reward agenda.

End-to-end reward oversight and senior advisory

  • Act as a senior reward subject matter expert, providing pragmatic advice on pay, incentives, benchmarking, reward governance and remuneration decision-making.

  • Partner with Exco-level and senior business stakeholders to shape reward recommendations that balance commercial need, talent considerations, affordability, fairness and governance expectations.

  • Provide clear, evidence-based analysis and recommendations for senior leaders, committees and governance forums.

  • Use judgement and external market insight to support complex hiring decisions, senior appointments, retention issues and evolving workforce requirements.

Annual Reward Review

  • Own the IBP Annual Reward Review from planning through to governance, approval and implementation, ensuring the process is well controlled, data-led and aligned to remuneration philosophy.

  • Co-ordinate the EVA bonus pool and LTSA overall pool determination and divisional or team allocation, working closely with the IBP CEO and CFO.

  • Oversee the consolidation, challenge and analysis of remuneration proposals, ensuring robust recommendations are prepared for review and approval by the Investec Group Remuneration Committee.

  • Coordinate communication with P&O Leads, People Consultants and business leaders, ensuring stakeholders understand process, governance expectations and decision-making principles.

  • Prepare schedules, papers and remuneration disclosures for inclusion in the Annual Report and Accounts, ensuring accuracy, quality and alignment with regulatory and governance requirements.

Reward governance, regulatory and legal oversight

  • Advise senior stakeholders on the interpretation and application of remuneration-related legal and regulatory requirements in a financial services environment.

  • Provide subject matter expertise across legislative and disclosure obligations, including Companies Act reporting requirements, Directors Remuneration Report, CEO pay ratio and gender pay gap reporting.

  • Own the preparation and submission of annual external reward reporting, including the gender pay gap report and reward submissions to the PRA and FCA.

  • Own the integrity, governance and ongoing development of reward data and management information, ensuring accuracy, consistency and fitness for decision-making and regulatory reporting.

  • Oversee reward-related systems, data processes and controls in partnership with P&O, identifying enhancements and leading implementation of system or process improvements where required.

  • Assess the impact of regulatory, market and business developments on reward structures and processes, recommending appropriate action.

Benchmarking, market insight and remuneration research

  • Own participation in external reward benchmarking surveys, ensuring robust market positioning, high-quality data submission and effective interpretation of results.

  • Interpret and synthesise external market data to provide insight on competitiveness, pay positioning, talent scarcity and emerging reward trends.

  • Deliver bespoke benchmarking and market analysis for senior hires, critical roles and strategic reward issues, drawing on multiple external data sources and professional networks.

  • Evaluate emerging remuneration models and structures, assessing suitability, risks and strategic value in the context of business needs and market practice.

Project, change and process management

  • Lead reward projects and strategic change initiatives from design through to implementation, ensuring delivery is supported by clear analysis, stakeholder engagement and robust planning.

  • Coordinate cross-functional stakeholders across P&O, Finance, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Payroll, Benefits and Technology to deliver reward changes effectively and in line with governance expectations.

  • Identify opportunities to improve reward processes, controls and stakeholder experience while maintaining confidentiality, auditability and regulatory discipline.

Reward data, analytics and systems

  • Own the integrity, governance and ongoing development of reward data and management information, ensuring accuracy, consistency and fitness for decision-making and regulatory reporting.

  • Oversee reward-related systems, data processes and controls in partnership with P&O, identifying enhancements and leading implementation of system or process improvements where required.

  • Develop and maintain high-quality reward analytics and reporting to support business planning, committee papers, regulatory submissions and executive decision-making.

  • Ensure reward data is managed in a way that supports efficiency, auditability, confidentiality and compliance with internal governance standards.

What do I need to bring?

  • Significant end-to-end reward experience, ideally gained in financial services or another highly regulated environment.

  • Proven experience managing core reward processes across annual reward, incentives, benchmarking, reward governance, reporting and senior stakeholder advisory.

  • Credibility advising Exco-level or equivalent senior stakeholders, with the ability to influence through expertise rather than formal authority.

  • Strong understanding of remuneration regulations, reward governance, external reporting and relevant PRA/FCA requirements.

  • Experience preparing Board, Remuneration Committee or senior executive-level analysis, papers and presentations.

  • Advanced analytical capability, strong numeracy and excellent Excel skills, with the ability to work confidently with sensitive, complex reward data.

  • Experience with market data, salary surveys, pay benchmarking and interpretation of external remuneration trends.

  • Knowledge of employee share schemes and long-term incentive arrangements.

  • Ability to translate complex reward issues into clear, commercially grounded recommendations.

  • Strong relationship-building skills across P&O, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Payroll, Benefits and senior business stakeholders.

  • Seasoned professional judgement, with the confidence to own complex reward matters and make balanced recommendations in ambiguous situations.

  • Commercially astute, able to balance market competitiveness, affordability, fairness, risk and governance considerations.

  • Highly discreet and professional when dealing with confidential remuneration information and senior stakeholder matters.

  • Comfortable operating at pace in a complex, regulated environment with competing priorities and critical annual deadlines.

  • Confident communicator who can simplify technical reward topics for senior audiences and governance forums.

  • Collaborative and hands-on, with the ability to coordinate activity across functions without relying on direct reporting authority.

  • Curious and externally aware, maintaining a strong view of reward market practice, regulatory change and emerging remuneration trends.
