An Asia-based hedge fund platform is looking to hire a Japan Rates / JGB Trader to support the build-out of its Japan macro and rates capability.
The platform is backed by institutional capital and led by an experienced investment team with a strong track record across financial macro and cross-asset investing. The role sits at the intersection of trading, research, execution, and investment idea generation, with a primary focus on JGB / Yen rates markets.
This is a high-impact opportunity for a Japan rates professional to join a growing investment platform, work closely with the CIO and senior investment team, and contribute directly to the development of a dedicated Japan macro/rates strategy.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will help generate and articulate Japan rates, macro, and relative value trade ideas; support trade execution and portfolio implementation; and contribute to discussions around trade construction, timing, sizing, hedging, and risk.
The mandate can be shaped around the individual’s strengths and experience, with potential over time to develop toward greater autonomy, risk-taking responsibility, and potentially a PM-style seat.

Key Responsibilities

Cover Japan rates markets, with a primary focus on JGB / Yen rates.
Monitor macro developments, policy dynamics, flows, positioning, liquidity, and relative value opportunities.
Generate and present Japan rates, macro, and RV trade ideas to the CIO and investment team.
Support execution and implementation of portfolio views across JGB / Yen rates products.
Contribute to trade construction, sizing, timing, hedging, and risk management discussions.
Work closely with the CIO and senior investment professionals within a collaborative investment process.
Help build and institutionalise the firm’s Japan macro/rates capability over time.
Maintain strong awareness of domestic Japan market dynamics and the broader global rates backdrop.
Contribute to both discretionary investment discussions and quantitative / analytical workstreams.

Product / Market Focus

The mandate will focus primarily on Japan / Yen rates, including:

JGBs and related Japan rates products
JGB futures
Yen IRS / OIS
Japan rates relative value
Repo / financing markets where relevant
Broader Japan macro, policy, and rates themes
The role is expected to remain Japan-focused initially, with potential over time to contribute to broader Asia and global macro discussions where relevant.

Candidate Profile

Strong experience across JGB / Yen rates markets.
Background in rates trading, macro trading, relative value, execution, or research.
Ability to generate, structure, and communicate actionable trade ideas.
Strong understanding of macro/rates frameworks, central bank policy, curve dynamics, relative value, and market technicals.
Japan rates product knowledge, with the ability to interpret local market dynamics in a broader global rates context.
Commercial mindset and sound judgement around trade implementation, timing, liquidity, and risk.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior decision-makers.
Collaborative approach and desire to contribute to a growing investment platform.
Interest in developing toward greater risk-taking responsibility over time.
