Executive Director, Group Strategy and Growth (Banking)

The Executive Director is responsible for shaping, developing, and driving the Bank's corporate strategy and long-term growth agenda. Reporting to senior management, this role serves as a trusted strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team, ensuring alignment between the Group's vision, business priorities, and financial objectives.

The incumbent will lead the Bank's enterprise-wide strategic planning process, translate strategic ambitions into actionable initiatives, and drive execution through clear performance metrics and stakeholder alignment. This role requires exceptional strategic thinking, commercial acumen, analytical rigor, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across the organization.



Key Responsibilities

1. Enterprise Strategy Development and Execution

• Lead the Group-wide strategic planning process, ensuring alignment of business priorities with the Group's long-term vision and financial objectives.
• Partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to formulate, refine, and communicate the Bank's corporate strategy.
• Translate strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps, initiatives, and measurable outcomes across business and support functions.
• Facilitate strategic reviews and monitor progress against key strategic objectives, ensuring effective execution and accountability.
• Develop and maintain strategic performance frameworks, including annual business goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Drive strategic alignment across the organization to ensure resources and investments are deployed effectively in support of growth priorities.

2. Strategic Business Partnership

• Partner with business leaders across Wealth Management, Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Treasury, and other key business functions to develop and execute business strategies.
• Provide strategic challenge and thought leadership to support business growth, market positioning, and sustainable profitability.
• Support the evaluation and prioritization of strategic initiatives, investments, partnerships, and business opportunities.
• Work closely with the leadership of China entity to align Mainland China growth initiatives with the Group's strategic priorities while addressing local market and regulatory considerations.
• Foster collaboration across businesses and functions to drive enterprise-wide strategic outcomes.

3. Market Intelligence and Strategic Insights

Working closely with subject matter experts across the Bank Group:

• Lead market, competitor, customer, and industry analyses to identify trends, opportunities, risks, and potential disruptions.
• Monitor developments in the banking and financial services sectors, including digital banking, fintech, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
• Assess the strategic implications of macroeconomic, regulatory, geopolitical, and industry developments.
• Identify and evaluate growth opportunities within Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area (GBA), Mainland China, and other strategic markets.
• Provide data-driven insights and strategic recommendations to support executive decision-making and long-term planning.

4. Executive Advisory and Board Engagement

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior management on strategic, commercial, and transformational matters.
• Prepare Board-quality strategic reviews, business cases, presentations, and management reports.
• Present complex analyses and recommendations in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to executive audiences.
• Support Board and Executive Committee discussions through the provision of strategic insights and thought leadership.
• Leverage advanced storytelling and visualization techniques to communicate strategic messages and influence decision-making.

5. Leadership and Team Development

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing strategy team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
• Provide coaching, mentorship, and constructive feedback to support professional growth and succession development.
• Establish high standards of analytical rigor, strategic thinking, and quality across all departmental outputs.
• Promote best practices in strategy development, strategic analysis, and executive communications throughout the organization.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Banking, or a related discipline.
• Master's degree and/or MBA preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience, including substantial experience in corporate strategy, management consulting, banking, or financial services.
• Demonstrated track record of leading complex strategic initiatives and delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Strong understanding of Wealth Management, Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Cross-boundary Banking, and the broader financial services landscape.
• Sound knowledge of banking regulations, market dynamics, and emerging technologies impacting the financial services industry.
• Experience working with senior executives, boards, regulators, and diverse stakeholder groups.
