You’re after a career change into a new part of the finance sector in Hong Kong, or you want to discover upcoming vacancies at your dream employer.

Either way, you will need to expand your network of contacts in the city and get to know more people who might end up hiring you.

Fortunately, Hong Kong frequently plays host to financial conferences which provide perfect opportunities for networking. Here’s a selection of upcoming events:

Investment Advisory Summit, Hong Kong

What: One of the major conferences in Asia private banking, it focuses not just on technical investment strategies, but on the wider challenges facing the sector. “Is the industry understaffed in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong and Singapore – and how is it faring on its ‘don't hire to promote policy?’”.

Why network here: Some seriously big names will be in attendance, including François Monnet, head of Greater China private banking at Credit Suisse, and Ronald Lee, head of Asian private wealth management at Goldman Sachs.

When: 11 May 2016

Asian Investment Week

What: The ‘week’ kicks off with a day focused on exchange traded funds and concludes with two days of programmes addressing “the most important topics of concern for the region’s institutional investors”.

What: An event for wealth managers wanting to learn new techniques for engaging and retaining global clients, and for complying with a changing regulatory environment.

Why network here: Although its topics are highly technical, the conference also promises plenty of “networking opportunities, which include three course luncheons and an early evening reception”.

When: 15 - 16 June 2016

FT Investment Management Summit: Asia

What: A high-level look at how market turbulence and other challenges (think, robo-advisors) will affect Asia’s investment industry. “Which sectors and markets offer shelter from the storm?”

What: An event designed to help private bankers navigate the complexities of dealing with wealthy mainland clients – from RMB further internationalisation to cross-border asset allocation.
