Standard Chartered hired an ex-Credit Suisse trader for its e-trading team in Singapore

Alex Manakyan was at Mizuho, but not for long. After joining Mizuho's Singapore office as head of FX trading in October 2024, he left again in September 2025. He was presumed retired and happily managing his own money.

Not any more.

After a year out of the market, Manakyan is making a comeback. He will soon join Standard Chartered as global co-head of automated risk management (ARM) trading.

This sounds like a more substantial role than the one he was last engaged in, so maybe Manakyan was lured by the prospect of more responsibility.

Alternatively, he may have been lured by the prospect of working with Simon Wilson who also used to work for Credit Suisse and who was hired by Standard Chartered in May as global head of automated risk.

Wilson will reportedly be focusing on digitising FX and rates trading platforms and applying AI across the markets business. Manakyan will presumably be focused on trading across the same broad spectrum.

The Singapore Monetary Authority Register says that Ben Connolly, the former head of e-trading for Standard Chartered in Asia and Europe, left the bank's Singapore team in late August.

Connolly spent 15 years at Standard Chartered.

Manakyan's arrival may shake things up.
