Barclays declined to comment and Hoummady didn't respond to a request to comment. Multiple sources say he has resigned. His destination is unclear but he's not thought to be joining a rival bank. There are unconfirmed suggestions that he might be working on a new venture involving data centres.
Hoummady rejoined Barclays from Goldman Sachs in 2022. He previously spent 11 years at the British bank before leaving for Goldman in 2018 and was a popular figure there.
Barclays insiders are lamenting Hoummady's disappearance. It comes after the departure of numerous other members of the macro team, including - most recently James Hackett, an MD in sales - for a destination that remains unknown.
It's conceivable that Hoummady is joining a fund. London macro funds have ejected quantities of portfolio managers after a troublesome time in 2026, and have seats to fill.
It's not clear who will do Hoummady's job at Barclays. Punitha Raja is flavour of the year, but is in sales and is only a director. Guy Winkworth is a possibility. Mark 'The Whale' Wade joined recently, but is comparatively junior. Or Barclays could hire one of the many macro traders to have left a fund in recent months. There's plenty of choice, including the array of senior people who've left BlueCrest.
