Deutsche Bank's kindest, sharpest 30-year-old trader left
George Toynbee was a popular person while he was at Deutsche Bank in London. But now he has gone.

Toynbee didn't respond to a request to comment for this article and Deutsche Bank declined to comment. However, once again, multiple sources say he has gone. It's possible but not certain that he is joining a hedge fund. It's also possible that he is joining a British bank.
Toynbee, whom we estimate to be aged around 30, was a European government bond trader at Deutsche Bank. Despite being 'only' a director, Toynbee is thought to have been a significant risk taker on the desk and to have generated tens of millions in profits last year.
On this basis alone, Toynbee would seem to be a loss to Deutsche Bank. However, former colleagues say he was not only a "brilliant risk taker" and "a future star" in hedge funds, but a good person.
"He is the sharpest person I have worked with. He also treats everyone with kindness," said a former colleague. "He is an exceptional trader and an exceptional human being."
Toynbee joined Deutsche Bank from Morgan Stanley in 2023. He graduated with a first class degree in economics from the University of Exeter in 2017.
Deutsche Bank's European government bond business is run by Alok Modi, who also joined from Morgan Stanley, in 2020.
