Citi’s chief information officer has resurfaced, at a smaller employer
Working a banking technology job for thirty years and leaving for a much smaller job at a much smaller employer after a six month career break is a bit off an off-piste career decision, but it’s not unheard of, as of this week at least.

Jonathan Lofthouse joined LSEG earlier this week as the chief information officer of its data & analytics division. LSEG, best known for hosting the London Stock Exchange itself, also has a substantial market intelligence business, which bought out Refinitiv for $27bn a few years ago.
Lofthouse joined LSEG from Citi, where he was the group’s chief information officer, covering both its banking and markets business. Lofthouse spent almost three decades at Citi – which he joined on a graduate program – before leaving the firm rather abruptly back in May.
His former colleagues from Citi wished him kind words on social media. “Brace yourselves” Ian Micallef, Citi’s head of developer enablement, told LSEG. “They [sic] are lucky to have you,” said Catherine Ablott, MD in engineering excellence at Citi. “LSEG is extremely fortunate to have you,” said Barbra Sullivan, Citi’s head of operations & technology regulatory maintenance and governance.
Lofthouse’s contributions to Citi are lengthy. Chief among them, however, was his role in developing XiNG, a technology platform that head of markets Andy Morton said had the “biggest single impact” on its business at the bank’s investor day earlier this year.
