Dhanajay Singh Rathore has joined Standard Chartered in Dubai as an MD and cluster head for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He spent four and a half years at Deutsche Bank, also in Dubai, where he was a private banking team head for the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
Rathore also worked in the Middle Eastern private banks of Credit Suisse, Julius Baer and UBS. His early specialism was on high net-worth Indians working in the region.
Deutsche Bank CEO Christian Sewing has high hopes for his private bank. He said today that it "has made tremendous progress with its transformation," achieving returns of over 10% in 2025.
Standard Chartered, meanwhile, spent much of last year growing its UAE private banking team. It hired the head of HSBC's Middle East private bank, as well as a senior MD from Julius Baer. CEO Bill Winters said late last year that 5% of the bank's AUM is from its UAE private bank, but that "could become 15 per cent or 20 per cent" in the next few years.
