Ex-Meta manager picked up by Aristotelian hedge fund to head its engineering team
Some time ago, Aristotle spent a few sentences discussing the meaning of “a sign”. 2,300 years later, a hedge fund named after his definition and based on magical computer sand rocks reading light signals turning money into more money has hired someone – to make the magical computer sand rocks a bit better at their jobs.

Ziad Chammaa joined Tekmerion Capital Management in New York as head of engineering. He joined the hedge fund from Meta, where he spent just one year as an engineering manager. Before Meta, Chammaa worked at Two Sigma, where he was a VP in data engineering.
Tekmerion has had a long relationship with Brevan Howard. Originally founded in 2017, it joined Brevan’s platform back in 2024 as BH-Tekmerion. It was spun out again earlier this year, taking a small team and a billion dollars from Brevan in the process. Tekmerion has three job openings currently, all in New York: one for a software engineer, one for a data analyst, and one for a macro analyst.
Tekmerion is an Ancient Greek word that means “signal”, basically. Explaining the use of the name and musing on its physical and metaphysical meaning, the firm itself said that “our systematic strategies utilize sophisticated mathematical models, but at the end of the day we remain grounded in common sense and focused on achieving real, practical results.”
Tekmerion is full of eccentric figures. One of its co-founders, Zachary Squire, studied Classics at Princeton, before eventually becoming head of foreign exchange trading strategy and oversights at Bridgewater, where he met fellow Tekmerion co-founder Larry Mincone. It’s unclear if Chammaa speaks Greek or is particularly interested in Aristotle (he has a computer science degree), but he does have a Spanish Duolingo score of 62, for what it’s worth.
