Goldman Sachs hired an MD from hedge fund Point72 in its top Europe tech hub
Goldman Sachs is big on hiring in Warsaw. According to the students union of GSH Warsaw, the city is home to Goldman's largest office in continental Europe. Goldman's latest major hire in the region came from one of the earliest adopters of Polish talent in the hedge fund space.

Maciej Wolański has joined Goldman, working on global banking and markets and engineering. He spent the last five years at Point72, where he was most recently the hedge fund's country head for Poland, taking over the role from Rafa Lopez Espinosa who left for Citadel last March.
Wolański held a number of senior roles at Point72, including head of technology for Poland, and head of middle/back office technology. He also previously spent three years at UBS in its Krakow office, working as head of technology for Poland as well as global head of AI and data platforms for investment banking technology.
Wolański is a Point72 Polish veteran. He joined the fund when it was first pushing into Warsaw and was one of the first 60 employees hired as part of a push to reach a headcount of 150 by 2021. Today, LinkedIn data suggests Point72 employs over 300 people in Poland while the fund's website says it has over 200 people. More hedge funds have since built offices in Poland, including Balyasny and Qube Research.
Polish offices, predominantly tech and back office hubs, have been on the rise in recent years. Last year, JPMorgan was accused of ousting London tech staff with poor bonuses to replace them with Polish engineers. This year, brokerage firm Cantor Fitzgerald appears to have opened a new office in Warsaw.
