Hedge fund Qube Research hired Hudson River Trading's head of options market making
Qube Research and Technologies (QRT) may not be growing quite as fast as its meteoric rise in 2024, but it's still hiring some big names. The latest addition in the hedge fund's market making division is a quant with a quarter century of experience.

Beat Ammon joined Qube as its head of research for options market making. He was most recently an algo developer at Hudson River Trading in New York, where he spent four years as its head of options market making. Qube has been expanding into the US, with planned offices in Chicago, New York and Houston, but Ammon has been relocated to Qube's London HQ for the role.
Ammon also spent a decade as a Morgan Stanley MD in its automated options market making team, and was previously head of volatility arbitrage quant research at hedge fund Citadel. He worked in market making technology as early as 2001 with Credit Suisse.
Electronic market making isn't that common among hedge funds, given the need for cutting edge low latency technology. Instead, trading firms like Jane Street and Citadel Securities dominate the space. Qube employs far more technologists than your average hedge fund, however, and has multiple cultural similarities to firms like Jane Street. Bloomberg said last year that it has been able to generate hundreds of millions of dollars by making markets.
