If you’re looking for an investment banking job in Hong Kong, Morgan Stanley is likely to be one of your best bets right now, especially if you work in equity capital markets. The US bank is ranked the number one bookrunner for Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) ECM so far this year, according to Dealogic data. It’s also one of the sponsors of the blockbuster Ant Financial IPO in Hong Kong, a deal that is likely to boost the local bonus pool.
But while getting a front-office investment banking role at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong is likely to be a good career move, how much might the bank pay you once you come on board?
To give you an approximation of Morgan Stanley’s Hong Kong salaries in IB, we reviewed self-reported Glassdoor base salary and bonus numbers for Morgan Stanley across the four seniority levels that the website has sufficient data for: analyst, associate, vice president, and executive director.
IB pay at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong obviously varies from banker to banker and according to individual performance, so the figures in the table below should be seen as approximate and general guidance. Bonuses at this level can reach HK$500k, depending on performance.
Front-office Morgan Stanley salaries for associates within the firm’s Hong Kong investment bank are in the region of HK$1.56m, according to the numbers that Morgan Stanley staff have self-reported to Glassdoor. They could potentially earn bonuses of about HK$600k.
Vice presidents in IB jobs at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong earn around HK$2.08m a year. When you reach the senior ranks, there’s another large uptick in your Morgan Stanley Hong Kong salary. Executive directors are paid about HK$2.5m, alongside bonuses that can be as high as HK$1.1m, according to the Glassdoor estimates.
